Hello everyone.
There are always flowers for those who want to see them. - Henri Matisse.
I love Spring. The colors, the energy, the storms, the allergies, the unpredictable temps, 💐 blossoming and all of the birds chirping. It is really my favorite season. And Lil’ Inc’s.
Welcome to another edition of this newsletter. Thank you as always. Let’s get started.
Surrealism
I’ve been thinking a lot about the painting The Treachery of Images or This is not a pipe lately. The artist René Magritte had this to say:
The famous pipe. How people reproached me for it! And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it's just a representation, is it not? So if I had written on my picture "This is a pipe", I'd have been lying!
He’s not wrong. This is a painting of a pipe and unusable. In the Surrealist Manifesto by André Breton, he states:
I believe in the future resolution of these two states, dream and reality, which are seemingly so contradictory, into a kind of absolute reality, a surreality, if one may so speak.
Surrealists demonstrate this through their art. And in the case of Magritte, he use his wit and creativity to challenge what we know, what is sitting right in front of of us, all in a way that makes it completely safe and accessible. Things that make you go hmmm. A big reason I love Surrealism is that it helps open the mind and present other perspectives. And along the way, you feel something - discomfort, laughter, confusion or in my case, total admiration.
How about that.

Podium Life
Podium Life is now a 3-month old (it can lift its head and has started to smile). We are a small group of co-founders and contractors - great writers/developers/designers that all work on this business during opportune times - early morning, late night, weekends and that spare 10-15 min that sometimes pops up.
I've listened to a ton of the NPR Series How I built This and I have recognized a number of themes founders experience:
Loneliness
The highest of highs and the lowest of lows
Imposter Syndrome
Lots of mistakes and lessons learned
Stress!
The kindness of others
The unexpected
Pride
I am in no way comparing myself to the founders of AirBnB or Carol's Daughter or FUBU (some of my favorite How I Built This episodes)...but I kinda am. Starting a business is hard and I want to acknowledge everyone out there doing the same, at any scale. I also wouldn't have it any other way.
If you want to support Podium Life, check out our site or follow us on Insta. Thank you!
